“You Bought A House, Now What?”

Change the locks – This one can be a good idea especially if the past owners have been there for a while. First off, locks break down and fail, but you also don’t know who the hell they’ve given their key to during their time there

Meet the neighbors – Not only do you want to know who your neighbors are, but it’s really better for you in the long run. I published a blog post back in 2023 about how we are definitely not as connected as we should be and we talk to our neighbors a whole lot less than we did in previous decades.

Schedule Regular maintenance – HVAC and Landscaping are the first to think of. I can’t tell you how many of my clients have bought a house during the warmer months and waited a couple weeks to move in and discover their lawn is completely overgrown. Many of these people were moving out of apartments and condos and it slipped their minds.

Plan for future renovations – This is a lesser-known one. But many new homeowners have ambitious plans to renovate or add-on to their new home at some point. Most people don’t think to bring in a GC to see what’s truly possible with the home and get a budget to work toward for the eventual project.

What else did you all do when you first moved into your current home? Did I miss anything?
